Supporting World Suicide Prevention Day and “R U OK Day”: we take on challenges to make changes
World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is an awareness day observed on 10 September every year, and this year, the theme is “Creating hope through action”, reflecting the need for collective action to address this urgent public health issue.
Our Aurora Healthcare team members in Australia recently supported the national “R U OK Day” by challenging themselves to make the time at work to reach out to just one person, or more if they can, with an “R U OK?” check in. We joined the campaign as a specialist private mental health provider and felt great to arouse mental health awareness and appeal for suicide prevention.
R U OK? is a harm prevention charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. The "R U OK?" Day was set up to prevent suicide by encouraging people to invest more time to be alert to those around them, have a conversation if they identify signs of distress or difficulty and connect someone to appropriate support, long before they're in crisis.
OncoCare Cancer Centre
Cancer is the leading cause of death in Singapore and cancer cases have been rising over the years. Yet, the impact of medical diagnosis and medical journey can become a barrier for many cancer patients to step forward and seek further support. This year, continuing our corporate social responsibility effort, OncoCare Cancer Centre is working with 365 Cancer Prevention Society for donation and fund raising to help cancer patients.
“Let’s Fight Cancer Together” is a 3-month fundraising campaign focusing on 3 specific cancer groups: lung cancer, gynaecological cancer, colorectal cancer and we aim to enable cancer patients to seek second opinion and consultations with more ease. Through the joint efforts of both organisations, we hope to bring greater awareness for cancer treatments and prevention.
