Currumbin Clinic
During national mental health week last October, Currumbin Clinic was delighted to introduce pet therapy as part of our week-long schedule of activities to raise awareness, patient and community engagement to help those living with mental health concerns. The event was hugely popular, even securing television news coverage for its known benefits including social interaction, improved self esteem, responsibility and much more. Following our success and positive feedback from patients, Currumbin Clinic has formalised an agreement with Harmony Hooves to hold pet therapy onsite monthly. It’s wonderful to welcome our many and varied, cute furry visitors to the Clinic. It's fantastic to bring smiles and laughter to our patients, while further supporting our diversional treatment therapies.

Belmont Private
On February 25, we welcomed Dr Tony Duan, Dr Xiaojun Li and the Luye Medical Innovation Center team to Belmont to discuss our private mental health services and in particular, perinatal mental health. The group’s key opinion leaders and members of the innovation team gathered with Belmont Private’s Dr Taemets, Dr White, Dr Hlincikova, Gaye Foster, hospital management and Healthe Care executives for a detailed presentation and indepth discussion about further growth opportunities for Luye Medical in China. The innovation team gained a thorough understanding of the diverse range of specialties, treatment offerings and training programs provided at Belmont, and were most impressed with our Circle of Security and Triple P Parenting program frameworks. Thanks to all Belmont staff and doctors for your pride in our hospital and ensuring a very successful visit from our international colleagues.

Townsville Private Clinic
Townsville’s February floods touched all of our community. At Townsville Private Clinic alone, the homes of ten staff and doctors were seriously affected, some of these were homes with young families and having to manage without power, phones and vehicles. In the midst of this flood disaster and unrelenting rain, access to basic supplies also became more difficult. A special thank you to our great staff and doctors at Townsville Private Clinic who worked tirelessly during this time to lend extra support where needed. Many worked double shifts while being away from their family and friends and in many cases were not aware of damage to their own homes. On behalf of our Townsville Private Clinic team, a sincere thank you for the generosity of all Healthe Care and Luye Medical for your words of encouragement, support, fundraising and donations. Our Townsville Private Clinic staff and doctors as well as our community are very appreciative and with near $50,000 raised, this donation has been gratefully received to help rebuild our community.

Our February launch of the internationally recognised PD Warrior® program was a huge success for Eden Private and the local community, with the event being acknowledged and well supported by various local Parkinson’s support groups. Building on our reputation for rehabilitation excellence in the local health services community, our allied health team have become regular presenters on the professional development calendars of the Radiation Oncology Centre (ROC) and Sports and Spinal Physiotherapy community practices. In a move welcomed by the Gympie community, we have hit the road to provide an innovative transport service for day patients to attend our rehabilitation and mental health day programs. Congratulations also to the team for achieving AROC green status at Eden Private, we’ll be celebrating all the hard work and this fantastic outcome with a ‘Love Your Work’ themed staff BBQ!

We continue to achieve growth in inpatient and day patient admissions. In line with this, we’re excited to recruit fulltime psychiatrist, Dr Manfred Penzhorn (pictured above) with a special interest in older persons’ mental health. We continue on our mission to become a facility that can provide care to our patients through all stages of life, whether that be a mental health admission as an adolescent, to a surgical or medical admission right through to support for older persons - either mental health or physical rehabilitation.
Complementing this patient experience, we are now licenced to provide palliative care and are confident this will provide a great deal of comfort to patients and their families who are already familiar with us. A big congratulations to our team, who’ve done an excellent job preparing for that licence application as well as a recent Dementia Australia audit to become recognised as a dementia-friendly organisation.
